Dragonflies in West Virginia

Dragonflies live near the rivers, lakes, ponds, and creeks of West Virginia. The Mountain State has a total of 46 species of the aerial hunters. Large swarms of the green darner dragonflies have been reported commonly from the state. It usually occurs when the insects migrate south in search of warmer weather when winter is knocking on the door.
